Billy W. Long, M.D., was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from David Lipscomb College in Nashville. He received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he also completed his internship and residency. He was a clinical associate in the gastroenterology section of the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland for two years prior to a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Long as served as Lt. Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service and as an assistant professor of medicine at both the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Mississippi. He is one of the founding members of G.I. Associates. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Long is a founding member of the Mississippi Chapter of the National Ileitis and Colitis Foundation. Dr. Long has authored many scientific publications.
