A Jackson native, Dr. Underwood attended elementary school at First Presbyterian Day School (across the street from his future office!) and went on to Jackson Preparatory School, where he played basketball, served as student body president, and was named "Mr. Jackson Prep" in 1986. He is married to the former Stacy Greer of Jackson, and they have one daughter (Greer) and two sons (Jimmy and Ian). In his spare time, Dr. Underwood enjoys sports, fishing, and spending time with his family.
