Billy Wayne Long, MD

Billy W. Long, born in Tupelo, MS, is one of the founding members of GI Associates and is a gastroenterologist at the Jackson GI Associates and Endoscopy Center, Madison GI Associates and Endoscopy Center.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, TN and went on to pursue his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He stayed at University of Mississippi Medical Center and completed his internship and residency there.

He was a clinical associate in the gastroenterology section of the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland for two years before his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Long has served as Lt. Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service and as an assistant professor of medicine at both the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Mississippi. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Dr. Long is currently an attending physician at six different hospitals in the Jackson-Metro area and has been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine since 1981. He is a founding member of the Mississippi Chapter of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation, has an extensive list of research experience, and has authored numerous scientific publications.
